Baan Saladin

Baan Saladin Creative Industry Village offers an authentic glimpse into rural Thai life through a one-day community-based tourism program combining agriculture, local food, traditional knowledge and creative handicrafts. Located within a peaceful countryside landscape, the experience takes visitors beyond conventional sightseeing to meet local farmers, discover village-grown products and participate in activities that turn everyday resources into sustainable community creations.

The day begins among the rice paddies, where visitors can experience the agricultural landscape that has long shaped Thai rural communities. A walk through the fields provides an opportunity to learn about local rice cultivation, seasonal farming practices and the relationship between the community and its surrounding environment. From the rice fields, the program continues to a lotus farm, where visitors can see lotus cultivation and learn about the many ways this iconic Thai flower is used in local life, from religious offerings to food and traditional crafts.

The agricultural experience continues with visits to a Gac fruit farm and an orchid farm, introducing visitors to two distinctive aspects of local horticulture. Gac, a brightly coloured tropical fruit traditionally valued for both its culinary and nutritional qualities, offers an insight into lesser-known Thai agricultural products. At the orchid farm, visitors can explore the cultivation of Thailand's famous tropical flowers and learn about the care, propagation and commercial uses of orchids.

After exploring the farms, the program turns to the village's culinary heritage with an introduction to local rice delicacies. Using rice as a central ingredient, visitors can discover traditional preparations and flavours that reflect the community's agricultural roots. This food experience connects the produce seen in the fields with the dishes enjoyed at the local table, demonstrating how farming, cooking and cultural traditions are closely interconnected.

The day concludes with a hands-on water hyacinth upcycling workshop, transforming an abundant aquatic plant into useful and attractive products. Through guidance from local artisans, visitors can learn traditional techniques for preparing, weaving and crafting water hyacinth, turning a natural resource into something with practical and economic value. The workshop highlights the community's approach to sustainability while supporting local skills and creative enterprise.

More than a countryside excursion, the Baan Saladin Creative Industry Village program is an immersive community-based tourism experience where visitors can see, taste, learn and create alongside local residents. By connecting agriculture with food, handicrafts and creative industries, the program provides an authentic understanding of rural Thai life while contributing directly to the preservation of local knowledge, livelihoods and community identity.
